Chains/Belts/Sprockets this section is under construction
Chances are, if you have had to tighten your chain twice, that it has stretched and isn't meshing well with the teeth in the sprockets. Also, the teeth on your small sprocket will start to wear to points when the chain doesn't mesh well, and this is a good indicator that the chain and small sprocket should be replaced. It is a very good idea to replace your chain every few years, depending on use. This is a relatively small expense which will help protect the large sprocket on the concrete tub.
If the teeth on your sprocket have worn to points, it is probably time to replace your sprocket and chain. It is a good idea to replace the chain and small sprocket at the same time to insure even meshing and wear. This will save wear and tear on the large sprocket on the tub.
The large sprocket is cast into the concrete tub. Therefore, it can't be replaced as a part. If your large sprocket has begun to wear we recommend you replace your chain and small sprocket as soon as possible to limit further wear. If your large sprocket has worn to where it is not functional, you will need to replace the concrete tub, chain, and small sprocket.
Gearboxes/Motors/Oil this section is under construction
Many new gearboxes use synthetic oil, and they claim to need no changing or refilling. If you find the oil in your gearbox to be low or need changing, and if you don't know what kind of oil it is, it is best to drain the old oil completely and replace it with all new oil. Suitable replacement oil is a standard 90 weight gear oil from your local auto parts or farm supply store. We can supply you with the synthetic oil now used by Baldor Electric, but it is very expensive. Do not mix synthetic and standard oils! |
